To say that hiking is a favorite pastime for Mary Wilson is an understatement. The Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) client and outdoor enthusiast is passionate about hiking and last year set out to become the first blind woman to hike the Appalachian Trail with her black Lab guide dog, Thor.

Chris will be joined by Kristin Lucas, GDB’s Canine and Community Operations Officer, and Dr. Sarah-Elizabeth Byosiere, Director of Canine Research and Development.
Have you ever heard that it’s important to socialize your dog? Contrary to what we might think, socialization is not just a checklist of activities and experiences. While puppies need to have opportunities to meet with different people and other animals, most socialization should look quite boring!
April 21 to 27 is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate GDB’s volunteers who help make our mission possible. Most importantly, the week-long celebration is the perfect opportunity for all of us at GDB to say ‘thank you’ to our wonderful volunteers who give their time, talent, and energy to our organization.
We had an egg-cellent time with our partners from Lighthouse for the Blind – San Francisco Bay Area and the families from their Little Learners program at the Spring Celebration. Children enjoyed an accessible beeping egg hunt, arts and crafts, and, of course, puppies!
