Client Corner: Maia Scott talks with Chantal Emmanuelli
Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) Client and Alumni Board member Maia Scott (above right with guide dog Gleam) recently caught up with fellow GDB Alum Chantal Emmanuelli (above left with guide dog Keiko) for an engaging talk about Chantal’s experience with our Orientation and Mobility Immersion program and her active lifestyle. Maia’s story is part of a new series called Client Corner where clients interview one another about their lived experiences.
GDB’s puppy raising volunteers are an integral part of our life-changing work. And our Puppy Clubs throughout ten western U.S. states are a big support system for our raisers. At a recent Graduation Ceremony, guide dog client Eric Holm expressed his gratitude to Joelle Cook and her family for raising his guide dog Daxton while Joelle thanked the Pleasanton Puppy Club for supporting her family’s puppy raising journey.
GDB has been a big part of Megan Minkiewicz’s life. She grew up in California with GDB career-changed dogs and retired guides as pets. Her older sisters were puppy raising volunteers in the 1970s, and her mother became a guide dog client at age 80. Megan has introduced generations of nieces and nephews to the organization as well.
Socializing GDB puppies and exposing them to different sights, sounds, and experiences in their journeys to becoming guide dogs is what GDB puppy raising volunteers do. The Nevada Puppy Raising Club visited a local fire station with their young charges to do just that.
In the video are clips of the news anchors, puppy raisers, and puppies in training walking around inside a fire station. Learn more about our puppy raising program at guidedogs.com/puppy
