Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) client and Board member Cheri Owen recently caught up with fellow GDB alum Derek Daniel for a spooktacular talk about his active lifestyle and recent work with GDB’s Alumni board.

The interview is part of a new series called Client Corner where clients interview one another about their lived experiences.

Client Guide Dog Readiness Training

What does it take to work with a guide dog? President and CEO Christine Benninger explored this question in a panel discussion on “Client Guide Dog Readiness Training.”

Chris spoke with Marc Gillard, director of rehabilitation services outreach about GDB’s Orientation and Mobility Immersion (OMI) Program that teaches clients tactics for safe, independent travel. GDB grad Kristen Ingalz also joined the conversation with her guide dog Bestie.

Hybrid Puppy Raising Volunteer Opportunity

GDB has a new Hybrid Puppy Raising Project for volunteers in the San Francisco Bay Area who want to raise a puppy but don’t have time to attend traditional puppy club meetings.

The project is led by GDB staff experts who provide volunteers with support and education through a hybrid model of online trainings, webinars, and in-person workshops.

In this episode of Central Bark, Host Theresa Stern talks with GDB client Kym Dekeyrel about facing challenges head-on with and without her recently retired guide dog. As a mother, wife, and competitive Cross-Fit athlete, Kym shares where she finds inspiration to take on some of her hardest challenges, including yard duty at her kids’ school.
